Stephanie Mesones

Stephanie Mesones was born in Uruguay and immigrated to the US when she was very young. Stephanie graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a degree in Political Science with an emphasis in International Relations and a degree in Spanish.

Stephanie joined the violence against women movement when she worked for Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center as the Spanish Training Coordinator. Stephanie facilitated a state certified 60-hour sexual assault crisis intervention training in Spanish. She also worked with survivors of sexual assault accompanying them during the forensic exam, advocating for them in the legal system, and managing cases. Stephanie has a wealth of experience facilitating bilingual sexual assault and domestic violence trainings. Stephanie also provides consulting services on violence against women programming and Spanish/English translations.

Stephanie currently works for East Los Angeles Women's Center, in California, as the Education Specialist on a VAWA grant. For East Los Angeles Women's Center, Stephanie created a bilingual, culturally competent, curriculum for a 12-hour Promotora training about violence against women and also wrote a curriculum for professionals. Stephanie is currently working with women in the East Los Angeles community implementing the Promotora program. In addition, she is working with professionals in the community to increase their awareness about violence against women, understand how Latinas may: perceive outside assistance, access community resources and respond to violence.
