ARTE SANA HONORS DAY OF THE DEAD |
Cultural holiday offers opportunity to reflect on our need for commemoration
The premise for Arte Sana's altar for the annual Day of the Dead celebration arose from the notion that much of what we believe to be true is often an illusion. As an example, many of the privileges we hold dear in this country - such our right to safety and freedom maintain their significance in part due to the reverence that we ourselves place upon them. However, when this faith is shattered, these gifts may seem to vanish instantly. Read more about this special exhibit: http://www.arte-sana.com/virtual_gallery/gallery_exhibits.htm |

ARTE SANA RECOGNIZES DAY AGAINST VIOLENCE |
| November 25th is the annual international day against violence against women In the U.S. in general, not much is known about violence prevention efforts in Latin America. Victim service advocates of color tend to work in isolation, even within our own states. This isolation is perpetrated in part by a lack of validation of our work and ongoing competition for very limited funds. As long as we do not know about each other or support each other, we will also have to face alone the elitist tendencies and practices that limit the full participation of our communities.
Many thanks to the following consultants for their valuable contributions to this special website update theme: - Liliana Puluzzi, Casa de la Mujer
, Rosario, Argentina - Ana Claudia Vaughn, Red Mujeres Nuevo Milenio, Patagonia, Argentina
- Beatriz Fontana, Psicloga Clínica y Especialista en Violencia Familiar
, Argentina - Maria Antonia Rodas de Buenos Aires, Argentina
- Raquel Lozano, Grupo de Apoyo LLENDI, A.C., Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, México
A special thank you to Rosario Fernández Hevia for the compilation of many of the poems that were contributed. |
