Women making music -- Mujeres haciendo música Claroscuro -- Women Making Music was formed in 1991 as an initiative hoping to bridge a gap (within the women's movement) by creating an organization whose basis would be the encouragement of feminist creative expression through music. Since that time, eight women have given themselves to the task of writing, harmonizing, and interpreting their creative ideas. Their music addresses various themes relating to issues such as ecology, indications of the breakdown of society, tolerance as a way of life, the course of affection and indifference, and above all, the daily struggles in the lives of women. Through the production and musical interpretation, Claroscuro has fought strongly to inspire positive changes in the lives of women throughout Latin America as well as the global community. Among many of their achievements, the group has held five productions, garnered a national award, received numerous acknowledgements, and presented dozens of artistic presentations in Costa Rica and on various world stages.
