- Message: It’s not my fault. I didn’t ask to be sexually assaulted, raped or abused. I beat myself up for a long time about all the things that I should have done to prevent the assault. But I realized that I didn’t ask or deserve to be raped, just because I had been drinking. I heard the societal messages being played in my head regarding rape. Once I was able to acknowledge that those messages were wrong I was able to recognize that the rape was not my fault. Get angry! It’s not your fault. It’s not my fault.
