Wounded Boys - Courageous Men

Michelle Graham and George Graham

Elliot Lake, Ontario

George was at the training school from 1965 until 1966. He died in 1993 shortly after he began dealing with his memories of childhood sexual abuse.

George never found out who raped him. He became a diabetic while at the school. The Brothers deliberately neglected his health and within a month's time he went into a diabetic coma. Following a months stay at a nearby hospital he was returned to the school's infirmary. The day he arrived back he was raped several times while they forced his face into a pillow. He never learned the identity of his assailants.

From that point on George's health began to deteriorate rapidly. We believe he shut down through his health.

During the last nine months of his life his feelings of terror would emerge as he tried to sleep. He would wake up sweating and screaming: "Please leave me alone, leave me alone, stop it, don't touch me, don't touch me." His legs would be moving as if he was trying to run away from his attackers.
